Pioneer Chores!

There just isn't any place like Champoeg State Park to gain some pioneer skills! We had been reading the Little House series as a family and just had to participate in this activity during the Living History Museum at Champoeg.

What history lover can resist a good ol' fashioned clothes line in a country setting?
The kids were completely delighted in pumping the water into buckets for the task of washing laundry.

The boys took on the heavy work of carrying the pails full of water to the washing station...

... and the "back breaking" work of pouring all that water into the tubs for washing.

The girls got busy right away with hand washing the laundry.

There's something about hanging up laundry to dry
after a hard day's work of washing it that pleases one. :)

Being out in the open country air on a historical site during a dreamy summer day really ingrains the familiarity of history in one's memory ....

Cost: FREE! There is a $5 day use fee if you don't have a State Parks permit already.
Important: Stroller and wheelchair friendly.
Tips:
Bring plenty of water. Some summer days are cooler and breezy there while others are very dry and hot!
They sell prairie bonnets and aprons in the gift shop.
There are also lots of books to consider purchasing while you are there... some may be good for your personal library.
Restrooms: Kept clean and there is a baby changing table in the Ladie's restroom.
Extra: For nature lovers, there are tons of Blue Bird nests so you can enjoy the bird families.
Offered: During the summer months.
Ages: There aren't any age restrictions and children as young as 2 years have participated in some of the activities. :)
