Wings of Wonder- Butterflies!

Wings of Wonder is no longer in operation. They closed their doors in June of 2012.

Butterflies are so lovely. Don't you think so? We discovered a hidden treasure trove of them in Independance, Oregon. We absolutely enjoyed exploring the variety of butterflies in the walk through exhibit!

Our tour began with information on butterflies and how they differ from moths.

The kids got to see chrysalises up close and they got to see
how they differ from silk worm cocoons. And afterwards...

we toured the lab where all sorts of varieties of butterflies are bred.
This photo really doesn't do these chrysalises justice. They look
like rich, exotic jewels strung like beads on an expensive necklace.

I really don't want to give too much away and spoil your visit, but I can't resist
sharing a photo of this enormous critter! You have got to see it in person!

We discovered that the butterflies are attracted to
bright colors... and hats! So, you may just find some
delicate beauty wanting to rest on you for a little while to say hi!

(They even have a reptile room!)
