Rosse Posse Acres- Elk Ranch

We've enjoyed the tour of the elk ranch twice and wouldn't you know that I can't find any of our photos from either trip?!! So, I'm sorry that for now this is simply a text post... we'll get photos up as soon as we can!

We weren't studying elk in particular... just mammals... and I happened upon this fantastic elk ranch! Brenda Ross does an exceptional job with an educational presentation about elk! It's really interesting to learn about things that the Ross' family have observed and experienced with the elk that they raise. They have all sorts of bio facts the kids can handle- teeth, buttons, hooves, etc. You also get to tour the facility and see the elk pretty up close. Along with the joys of their niche, they have some struggles that are worth learning about too.

Now, your kids also have a great opportunity to take something memorable home from this field trip experience if you pay a little extra for the kids to be able to make a craft with a bit of elk antler. :)

And who could resist their unique petting zoo after the elk tour? They have adorable little pygmy goats, miniature donkeys, a miniature horse, chickens, fallow deer, Patagonian cavy, and cute little Tucker the Wallaby!

It'd be great if you'd visit their gift shop at the end of the tour! They have all sorts of different items made from elk byproducts and where you can purchase some of this delicious, free range meat.

Cost: $5 per person. Groups of 10 or  more $4 per person.
Important: Overall stroller and wheelchair friendly. The "Elkatraz" may be awkward to move through and the gift shop may be a bit tight.
Tips:
*If it's wet out, bring rain boots! It is a farm/ranch setting after all. And be prepared to have fun!
Restrooms: Are available in the gift shop.
Extra: Bring your camera for some great photos ops!
Best Time of Year: This field trip works rain or shine! Most of it is held in the barn... even the craft if you choose that as an extra activity and the petting zoo. You will want to bring rain boots, rain jackets, umbrellas, etc.... you know... Oregon wet weather gear if you go in the wetter seasons. :)
Ages: All
